Mr Bull

Name: Mr Bull, a.k.a. Bully

Background: From the Bunny line, also half Guernsey. Sire to Calfy.

He is our only bull on the farm, and we use him sort of as a last resort. We use AI for reproduction, but sometimes it’s hard to get a cow bred. In that case, we stick them outside with Mr Bull here. This is really his first year where he can be of any use, so we’re not sure what he’s going to do.

He’s not a mean spirited guy, but you’ve got to watch him. In this picture, he kept following me and following me, and the only way I could get him to stop so I could take the picture was to hold up a big stick, (Which you can’t see in the picture) and wave it at him. He was pretty destructive inside the barn, tearing up his stall pretty good. But once you get ahold of his nose ring, he’ll go wherever you and do what you want him to do.

He’s a small bull, which is good for first calf heifers, where you want to have a smaller calf so that birthing is easier.

EDIT: Last fall, Mr. Bull got a little too agressive and went after Valerie in the pasture while she was looking at some of the heifers out there. He knocked her down and as a result he was shipped off soon after…
